Atheen, that's the only website I find that suggests orange blossom. I suspect it's not necessary (even their recipe states omitting it won't matter) and that it doesn't add anything nutritionally to your homemade nectar. Very simple 4 parts water to 1 part white sugar seems to work just fine - I haven't had a bird complain to date ;0)

Oh, I know, I'm already feeding them the 4:1 version, I just thought they might simply like it more with the blossom water. I'm just hesitant to try and test it before I check with you experts if you think it could hurt them :)

Atheen, just simple prejudice or maybe superstition, but I wouldn't add anything to the sugar water. Some writers just think up stupid stuff to be different. Sounds like that to me.

I wouldn't add anything to the water and sugar solution. I don't see any benefit to the birds,and just based on an article someone wrote I wouldn't want to harm the birds. I can't understand why anyone would want to take a chance adding anything extra to the sugar water solution.They are such tiny animals.Who knows what detrimental effects extra ingredients that might be harmless to us could effect them.Why do people want to add extra things.Are they bored making the same formula or what?
