I don't grow iris in pots, but I understand the cat problem. My cats really like to play among the iris just as they are blooming. You can trim back the foliage. Iris don't tend to do a lot in heat, it is their dormant time, so you should be fine. I hope someone will let you know more than I can tell you. Personally, I would bring them up more to the surface of the soil. As far as watering, if the soil drains well, iris can handle more water, but they deal with dry conditions very well. Rot is a problem with iris so too little water is better than too much.

the thing is yeah they are very dormant right now ........i was thinking they died as they are not growing at all but they must be dormant as tubers looks fine ...i have made the potting mix myself with lots of sand and it drains really well ......

If the rhizomes are firm & look good, they should green up & look much better when the weather cools down. Your zone may be a bit of concern too, I assume iris can be grown there. I think iris require a certain amount of cold to be able to bloom, but I'm not sure how much. Maybe these sites can help
