White wild violets...I don't have any in my yard but I've heard wild violets are hard to eradicate.

Violets, and you have a lovely white one. There are herbicides that supposedly target them and won't harm the grass, but I don't know how well they work. Personally, I don't mind them in a lawn - they add cheerful color and stay green.

Wild Violets are very difficult to control in the lawn. Few of the commonly available lawn "weed" control sprays will do much to control these because of the waxy leaves that cause those sprays to roll right off. All of the "weed" controls will need several repeat applications. The best time to attempt control is in the fall when the plants are storing food to survive the winter.

Mostly this is one "weed" that people just need to learn to live with.

Thank you all for your responses...sounds like I'll maybe need multiple applications with dish soap mixed in so it'll stick better. I'm gonna try it this fall and next spring and if that don't work then like most of you said I'll (be forced to) enjoy the green/white show... :) . I read somewhere on the web yesterday that Weed B Gone Chickweed, Clover and Oxalis Killer might work if you're persistent enough...

You need to get the roots. Violets form a thick fleshy root, IMPE. I like them & would not remove, but digging would be my choice for eradication. BTW, the seeds don't come from the flowers, but from a seed capsule that forms on a separate stem near the ground.

Dish soap is a surfactant, something that reduces the surface tension of water so the water flows easier, but it does not help anything stick better. If anything dish soap would cause what ever might be in the water, the plant poison, to flow off the leaf surface faster. Dish soap may also cause the product to break down and be less effective.

Unless the manufacturer states that adding something like dish soap, and how much, it is not a good idea to do so. Most manufacturers will have added a compatible surfactant to the mix.
