Is there a standard shower size?

We're pulling the tub/shower combo out of our "master" bath and installing a shower (building the tile floor). Our architect kept it the same size, approx 5'x3'. But is there a reason it needs to be 5'?

I use "" for master because it's not the typical size of a master bath (1890s house). The room is roughly 8'x8', and there are 3 doors (bedroom, laundry/closet, and into the new addition), so there's not a lot of space. There will be 2 other full baths in the house. Would 4'x3' feel like a closet?

We used to have a corner shower in another bathroom that was about 31" x 31" but with an angle and it was cramped. Our concern is that the laundry room door makes a tight angle for getting a machine in/out. That won't happen often, but it will happen.... in the past we put it through an exterior door in the laundry room but that door is now gone.

The end wall will be a half wall with glass on top, so it'll feel more open.
