All really pretty. Love the colour of oregold. Just curious if it fades quickly? You know to pale cream, white?

It doesn't fade quickly on the bush but it doesn't last long as a cut flower. Maybe 1-2 days cut flower.

Thanks for replying. I don't cut flowers, I like them on the plant. Plus, my roses are only 1 & 2 years old, so I don't have a surplus to bring in yet! Maybe in a year or 2.

I was out of town for a week and missed the flush of blooms on Summer Romance.

I'm feeling your pain, at least with dark desire. My SR is still smallish, so I'm THRILLED with the four blooms so far.

modestgoddess, we have so many of the same roses, but yours look so pretty! I've only had a few SR blooms, but it was new from Chamblee this spring. Can you tell me IYO, how DD would look planted next to First Crush. It's so hard to tell from pictures. I need one more rose next to DD and didn't really care for SR there, so I put her next to Munstead Wood. I have New Dawn as a background and wanted something in that pale blush colour that wouldn't clash. I'm also considering Earth angel if you grow that. Thank you.

I think the color of DD would look nice next to First crush. I don't grow Earth angel but it seems to be getting positive reviews on this site.

What do you think of the fragrance of SR? I have a Tess and it has the same unusual scent. Do you know how they classify that? It says rose on the tag, but there's definitely something else extremely distinctive in there.

First crush, same bloom day 2

I hope my Lowe's has this again in the Spring. All those they had this year were sent back as they looked terrible, although they smelled wonderful. The colour looked very pale and nothing at all like your glorious bloom.

Thank you for the fragrance link. I hadn't picked up on the licorice scent (although that isn't what it smell like to me!). It its true that is only has this scent in the fresh flower. Tess has it from bud to bloom. While DA describes it as "old rose", it's so similar. Such a striking fragrance. Is this what is referred to as Myrrh? It doesn't smell anything like Sweet Cicely to me. Oh well, I seem to pick up on scents no one else does. I like it just because it's different and expands my brain connections!

Our Lowes had them the first week of April, then we had that cold snap. By Mother's Day they looked horrible and were on clearance. I bought some for my mom and they looked fine after being given water and sunlight. I hope that didn't reflect negatively on there sales. Chris from New Flora said they should be selling Plum perfect next year. Might buy another one if I see it.

Yes, unfortunately the plants at Lowe's are viewed strictly as a commodity. I'm surprised they even water them. I'll have to be johnny on the spot as I missed SR and DarkDasire as well. I got SR from Chamblee and the buyer at another Lowe's got me DD in late July. The stores prefer to send them back as it doesn't reflect as a loss to them. Not so nice for the growers, though. I can't complain, I've been very lucky in my purchases this year.

I wonder if Chris could tell us which roses will be shipped to Lowe's this year. I'm really wanting FC and Earth Angel, but would prefer to buy from Lowe's due to their large size. However, if they aren't going to get them, I'll get bands or gallons from wherever I can.It just would be nice to know. I'm going to check with the one Lowe's buyer and see if she can give me a heads up.

So far Summer Romance has a moderate fragrance.

My SR has a strong fragrance as a first year own room plant,. Although the scent changes considerably from bud to bloom, it's fragrant for me until the end. Modestgoddess, your pic is outstanding. I wish I could capture that beauty.

Just beautiful. Your DD really shows the black smudginess really well and the white stripes moses mentioned in another thread. I did go ahead with my purchase of 2x DD AND I finally found a First Crush clearanced at Lowe's for $5! I planted her on Tues and we've had gentle rain since. She looks pretty happy in her temporary spot. Now I just need to research her size and growth habit a bit more. Any input? This post was definitely enabling. :)

First crush is upright about 4 x2 feet so far, I posted most of the first year blooms. I'm expecting more blooms next year.

Final bloom of the season. I cut it earlier this week before it had fully opened to avoid frost.

Plum Perfect, hard to photograph but definitely plum purple in person . I just ordered a second one for the front yard. The last two November blooms were in full shade in my north facing back yard. Bush is still completely healthy and free of black spot.
