Serendipity..

I've posted photos of Kimo, the striped sport of Peace, before. The own root plant's roots were uncovered by watering and it has produced two "suckers" growing from its roots. Oddly, the first to flower, I thought was a bloom from Mystique Ruffles, the canned plant beside it, but the bloom was too large and too perfectly formed. Nope! It was the root growth and it produced the most perfect flower of Flaming Peace I have ever seen! It seems more logical to me that Kimo would have sported from Flaming Peace than directly from Peace, but the reported parentage is "Peace sport". This plant seems VERY genetically unstable!

Wow! That KIMO is gorgeous! Interesting that it sprouted a FLAMING PEACE bloom. I would guess that whoever discovered it obviously must be mistaken.

Cool, Kim! Will you be able to separate out the root suckers and rescue both plants? That stunning Kimo is the one to save if only one can grow (but we'd love to see you share cuttings with companies who might be able to market that one some day). Too bad it's so genetically unstable though, which limits companies from marketing similar unstable sports like Memphis Magic or Abracadabra.

It's intriguing that Kimo must have been a sport from Flaming Peace, since they have distinctly different looks. Roses are funny creatures!

Thank you, Cynthia! If the whole stem sported, separating it should provide two, distinct roses. If it's only the terminal buds, more growth should provide cuttings of Flaming Peace. Removing buds from the potentially sported stem for budding may produce budded plants of Flaming Peace. I'm not cutting it off until I can see what's needed to isolate the change, though.

How wonderful! I love both of your roses, probably Flaming Peace a little more. Good look with your propagating!
