Compost and Nutrients Question

I'm not sure if this is a silly question or not but i wanted to get your thoughts.

I bought and spread a truckload of non manure compost in an area that was really beat up by the sun/heat. I also have miloganite down, across the whole yard. The area with the compost spread is noticeably more green than the rest of the yard. so my questions are:

1 - is it because the compost is feeding the grass?

2 - is it because the compost is providing microbial life to break down the milo faster?

3 - is it just helping to keep the soil more moist and this is causing the green up?

It could be a combination but i'd appreciate your thoughts to help me organize this in my head.

A related question to #2 as well. On my Orchard/dog leg area, its a very sandy, native soil that has not really been cared for. After 3 weeks, I can still see the milo pellets on the surface - it doesn't seem like they are being broken down. What would this indicate to you? Low microbial life over there?

As always, thank you for your insights!
