I don't have the climate that you do, so I'm not sure if this will be of any help, but eggplant prefers both warmer air, and warmer soil than tomatoes. If tomatoes are okay with 50F - 55 F soil (different people will give different numbers for their determinations,) then 60F would be good for eggplants. They do not care for cool air at all.

I know that okra is another heat-lover, but I don't grow it so I'll leave that for someone else.

All 3 are greater heat lovers than tomatoes but okra is fast germinating so I always just direct seed it. No need for transplants.

Peppers and eggplants are slow to germinate and slow growers (compared to tomatoes) so I start them at least 2-4 weeks earlier and plant them out 2 weeks later than tomatoes. But I can't do either for Fall gardens as it gets too cold for them here by mid-Oct. I can see how tomatoes would do fine in the Fall in your climate but not sure how the other 3 will do in your Fall climate as sooner or later it will cool off too much even for them.

Sorry, I should have said that I'm in the Southern Hemisphere so heading towards Spring. Anyway some good information, will seed the eggplant and capsicum now and direct sow okra.

Agree with Dave. Those plants are warm/hot weather loving plants.

If I were you I would keep the old plants and keep adding new ones (staggering).
