I do plan to add curtains to the window, just panels that will remain open to leave an unobstructed view but still dress it up a bit. I'm not sure on the color just yet - the walls are a blue/gray depending on how the light hits it and the furniture is charcoal.

The love seat is in the corner with the ottoman. It looks like a giant chair in this picture but is actually a love seat that comfortably sits two with plenty of room

Put the sofa on the wall where the chair is now. Put the chair in the front corner by the railing.

Try the bookcase between the two windows and the wall switches and decorate it as a china cabinet.

Now you need a rug, draperies and lighting. Don't buy another chair until you find the rug.

Thanks Alicia. Do the sofa and chair fabrics match? I can't tell. Ok. Here's what I'd do for now. Move shelf to left of window. Swap sofa and chair and let them face each other. Use ottoman for coffee table for now with a tray. You know your true colors of fabric and walls. I'm thinking something like:

I would suggest floating the sofa with it's back to the dining area. This helps to define the space. I would move the chair across the room - facing the other way. If you buy another chair, make certain it's scale is good for the remaining space - where the chair & ottoman are now. I also suggest some informal, panel, window coverings, and a rug to ground the space and add color & texture. I agree with the designer who suggested you not buy another chair, until you have the rug. Place a large book case/shelving against the wall, and float the new chair in front of it. Finish with end tables and lighting.

Your window would be a great focal point with some dramatic patterned or colored drapes. You have a great blank slate so find a fabric you love to set the tone for the whole space.

1st thing to do is paint: You can do an accent wall by the windows, draw attention to that section of the room first and it will help distinguish it from the other share room.

2nd: You have brown furniture, add color to this room with accent items.

3rd: Once you add in the TV and etc, add paintings in this room.

The room is very open and has many options, decide on what you want this room to be first. It seems high traffic. So create around that but add value to this room.
