Dining room dilemma

I am in bad need of some objective advice. My mom is moving and has to get rid of a table (first picture) that I've always loved. It's been sitting in her basement unused for as long as I can remember. I found seven solid chairs for a steal, but I don't know if the style is right for the table. They would need to be refinished and recovered to match table. My question... Should I replace my existing set by refinishing the table from my mom and the chairs I bought? If so, do I paint? Stain?

Love the old table! I vote refinish and keep your mothers table and look for chairs not meant to match it

Will the table fit in your space? Looks much larger than the one there now? The chairs are a little generic. Have you seen them in person or just online? Not sure if they are worth reupholstering and refinishing.

The table is actually more narrow than what I have now and longer with the leaves in, but same length without.

How many chairs do you need on a daily basis? Your mother's table may be problematic for chair placement.

We only use four chairs and have the others for company.

I think the old table is really interesting in a very good way. I think the front legs on the chairs you are considering do relate very well to the table legs. I like your existing set too so I am not going to be any help deciding between the two.....

I'm a sucker for family furniture- especially the pieces that I have fond memories of. If there's any way to make it work for you, I'd use the old table. Not sure about those chairs though- looks like the wood might not have that genuine look to go with the table.

I love your set & I love your mother's table. Not crazy about the seven chairs, however how can one find 7 chairs that match. Have you bought the chairs? How much is being asked for the 7?

Does your table have leaves? How many does it seat when leaves are in it?

Thanks for all your help! The 7 Thomasville chairs were $100 for all, but I don't really love them. Based on he feedback here I think I will resell them. The table I will refinish has 2 leaves, so I think I can fit 8 comfortably.
Next question for you wonderful people... Do I stain or paint the table? Thank you thank you!

Definitely stain the table and get chairs that are upholstered.

If you have never refinished furniture, you may want to get a few quotes to have it professionally done.
