LOST!!

I can't find my DNA notebook anywhere! Has my passwords and kit #
and matches and everything! I don't remember when I had it last but I
think within the past month or 6 weeks.

I've been working
on "stuff" I've had saved for a few years and finding too much that
needs fact checked. I just this morning realized that notebook is not in
it's spot.

I need STAFF so
that I can assign all the side trips I take on my way to somewhere that I
never get to so they can get done by someone! I got tangled up in the
John and James Baileys. Those seem to be the only two names they can
spell so RECYCLE! Like the William and Elizabeth on my other branch. If
one is good, 6 more will be better!

I'm eating a big dish of cherry nut ice cream. It will be dinner time soon ;-)

OK I totally get this. it has happened to me more then once because like you I have big time case of the but firsts when I go to picking up the house and no telling what will end up where.

First I try to put it out of my mind as much as possible. Usually the remembrance of where I put it will suddenly pop into my head. If not I try just going back to the desk where last seen and trying to remember what I was working on that would send me to the fridge for more Cherry nut ice cream. OK So that did not work but did you happen to check the top of the fridge while you were there? Could it have slipped behind the desk or table or under the recliner while you were working on it. I have several places in this house that can harbor hiding DNA books

And many times when some thing was lost at the city when I was clerk I would walk away from my desk for any reason just to change my view of the desk and usually the corner of the paper would be peeking out when I came back.If you look quick you can catch it sneering at you just before it ducks for cover again.

Finally and this is insane but works. I use it in my art and when I was selling houses. Take a picture of your desk. Then process it and see if you see it in the picture. It is amazing how many times a piece of glass will show up in the wrong spot I have been over looking for days.

So sorry I sympathize with you.

I found it. In the same place I had looked 2 or 3 times. I knew I would. I haven't been anywhere but here! If you stay real still she won't see you? I didn't tell you I found the Promethease binder that I didn't know was not in it's spot either. They were hiding out together so I must have thought the new place was better than the old place they've always been. Even I know that moving something that has always lived in the "wrong" spot is a sure recipe for not having any idea where to find it after the move.

I am so happy you found both of them. Things like this just have a way about them. I do believe they have a life of their own and should be treated as such. I actually tried keeping a notebook for awhile and gave up on it too soon to know if it would ever work. I keep saying some day everything will be put in a place which is totally logical so when I can not find some thing I just have to go to the logical place. Harumph. Not sure how well that works.

"I found it. In the same place I had looked 2 or 3 times."

have you guys been watching me here? that sounds just like me. drive myself nutso. last fall I needed an envelope - 1 thing I knew where to find since I seldom use one. by golly it wasn't there. 1 spot on a top shelf in my room - no envelope box. I looked everywhere - for over a week. picked things up and look under them... I knew I hadn't used one in months but - who knows? finally, after that week I decided to start at the beginning - where I normally kept them. wow - there it was - my box of envelopes. And I'd look there several more times in my week of 'looking'.

I swore the dog moved them...

I I didn't understand one sentence in that post. I have no earthly idea what you were talking about. I must be more culturally out of it than I realized, lol! I think I got that you lost something important to you, ate some ice cream, then found it. If that is correct, then I must give you kudos for understanding the importance of eating ice cream during a crisis, haha! The other day I was looking all over the LR for my phone, was about to accuse Joy of misplacing it, then suddenly discovered it...in my hand!!! LOL!

The post sounds like when my genealogical researching sister talks family - I am following her then complete confusion reigns. And if I question her I realize I never was following.

No no no she didn't mean Pop pop's sister's son's daughter. It was Pop pop's mother's brother's sister's aunt. Both were named Eliza and both were married to Joseph. How could I be confused?

At least it keeps your brain busy. Whether it's trying to find something or trying to follow something. These days with having tv and computer on at the same time it becomes difficult to focus on either one sufficiently! I feel your pain. :)

Hahahaha Debbie. I did understand every bit of that post. I think maybe because I have done genealogy in my own family and also my old city clerk job could at times become very disorganized and brain multitasking to the utmost overload. Not to mention I am forever putting some thing in a safe place only to find that place was not so safe. I can not do the cherry nut ice cream except in my dreams but a nice cheese burger patty would have worked for me. LOL

Some day this house will be much better organized than it is right now.And it is not bad, honestly. I think I need a book shelf for that safe place everything must go to that does not already have the perfect place I can depend on finding it. This is in my new plan for some day.

It is the things that hide from us in plain sight that is so frustrating.

Chris, ya know what I read a while ago? There is no Someday in the week. I think about that every day. As I'm deciding whether to do something or not. "Not" usually wins these days. The hot is back and I didn't get the beans picked today. I'm going to make a real attempt to get them done before it gets too hot in the morning.

agmss, You are too following it. Otherwise you would never have been able to write that paragraph!

And yes, cherry nut ice cream solves all my problems.

"I was looking all over the LR for my phone, was about to accuse Joy of misplacing it, then suddenly discovered it...in my hand"

I do that with my remote! and I've caught myself reaching for the mouse to enlarge something that is on - tv!

"I am forever putting some thing in a safe place only to find that place was not so safe"

and I do this. I put things somewhere so I won't 'lose' them /it. but I never can find it when I need to! I don't remember where that 'safe' place is!

I found something the other month that I'd bought for my sister back in the late 90s - early 2000s. I know because I haven't bought anything from ebay since back then.

LOL LOL LOL I did that with my glasses last night. I usually put them in the same place but I put them in a different place (on top of my Kindle which was being recharged in another room) and this morning, of course, I couldn't find my glasses!

That is hilarious about your finding something you bought so long ago. It reminded me of one Christmas when I was a kid. My brother and I got bikes and after we opened everything, my mom told us that she had gotten bells to put on the bikes but put them somewhere and now couldn't find them! She never did find them and I remember even paying attention when we emptied the house when it was time to sell it. No bells were ever found! LOL

LOL on the Bells Murraysmom. My glasses live on top of my Kindle when I go to bed too. In the top little drawer of my dresser beside the bed.

Haha! I'm glad I'm not the only one who loses things in plain sight. Or loses presents. The other day while we were unpacking, I found a little snow globe for my nephew's son that I had intended to send him for preschool graduation. Really cute! It has Mickey Mouse in the cap and gown and the "snow" is bright confetti. The cool thing is there is a slot where you put your kid's picture in and then he's in the snow globe too. Now he's about to start first or second grade, lol.

OK, the piece of the puzzle that was missing for me was that I didn't know I'mhappy is doing genealogy. Now it all makes sense. Whew!

ImHappy I am making Someday for the unknown place in time when I will be alone. Saving a few things I want to display for ME that I know would make hubby batty. We do not need any more batty around here right now. I felt daring enough doing the dinning room. The whole house will be uprooted "Someday". Right now I know where things are now so leaving them where they sit until I am ready to display them.

I want to build the suitcase shelf I showed a long time ago only mine will not be tall. More table height. That will become my special storage space and plan on tags on the suitcase handles of what is in each case. Size of this shelf will be depending on how I re-arrange the bedroom and space I have to use for it.

THEN what I do not use will go away. I have plans.

    Nefarious plans?

    No doubt. :)
