Meet Bentley!

Sir Bentley joined our household on the 4th of July. He is the most beautiful cat I have ever seen. He is the purest white all over, except his pink ears and nose! He has gorgeous yellow eyes. He is the cuddliest cat! He just loves snuggling and to be right up against me all the time.

I open my miniblinds and window every morning around 7:00 AM. Bentley's favorite activity is watching "kitty tv" out the window. He has his own pillow, naturally, and he keeps careful track of the birds and other little critters (rabbits, squirrels, etc.).

Bentley will be three years old on August 1. He is super inquisitive and knows about everything going on in the house. :-)

My dear, dear cat, William, a British Shorthair, died very suddenly six years ago. I was devastated. I couldn't even think about a new cat for three years.

Then Joy adopted Sammy, a nice little orange tabby. Sammy was a loner, the most aloof cat I've ever met. He didn't enjoy being petted, held, or snuggled. He seemed unhappy, despite our best efforts.

When I went to Zambia for a year, our friend Lori took care of Sammy, along with her four cats. When I returned, it was obvious that Sammy was much happier living with four cats and no dogs. So we sadly made the decision to let him stay there.

My intention was to adopt a cat at some point AFTER we were all settled in here. But then...(haha)!

Joy and I went to PetSmart so Joy could check out dog supplies in anticipation of the little dog she is getting in September. When we got there, we discovered they were adopting out cats that day!

So...we went to take a look, but I had no intention to adopt that day. But when I laid eyes on Bentley, it was love at first sight! I asked the volunteer for Partners For Pets if I could hold him. He immediately snuggled up to me and it was all over, lol!

I am absolutely in love with this cat! His original name was "Sneed," hands down the worst cat name ever. Joy said he should have a majestic name, in keeping with his regal and gentlemanly bearing. We settled on "Bentley," and he learned it in about five seconds. :-)

We learned from the volunteer that his previous elderly guardian died and it was discovered she was a major hoarder! So we felt an affinity with him over that. Apparently, Bentley was really freaked out by all the boxes and the impossible piles of hoard, a lot of it aquired via dumpster diving--actual trash and junk. Before that, Bently lived with a family that had cats, dogs, and young children. He loved them all! The family gave him up when they moved, and he then ended up with the elderly hoarder.

I am so pleased to introduce you to Bentley! I'm so happy to be his new, forever guardian!

Bentley is a beautiful boy! (Is he neutered?) I hope that's not considered being too noisy; I'm just a rabid spay/neuter person.

You did a wonderful thing by adopting him.

he is so handsome! you're lucky he is a cuddler. i can't have a cat anymore - would be too afraid of a coyote getting it. that happens out here. my dog's pen (in case of having to stay out for a long period) is even topped with barbed wire.

yrs ago when I was a housemate with a coworker, they got a kitty that I called 'Splat' who woke me up in the morning with a leaping 'splat' onto my chest and then patting me on each side of my face with his / her paws. like 'wake up lady!'

I don't remember if a he/she. poor little splat got splatted one day behind the house where the alley way met the street. it was so cute tho, it would try to eat with my rather large shepherd dog. it was very tiny too... reminds that somewhere I have a pic of that!

Bentley is a very Handsome fella. Love his name. I think it is just purrrrrfect.

WE have three cuddlers here. The other 4 not so much. I love cuddlers too. It looks like Bentley is very happy you came along.

What a beautiful kitty, and how lucky that he's a lover and not aloof.

He is a beautiful boy and cuddlers are the best type of cat! At least from our perspective : )

Bentley is very lucky to have you as his new guardian. I hope you enjoy many, many years together!

Thanks all! He is a wonderful companion. YES he is neutered. And current on all his shots. In Washington state, all cats and dogs that are adopted out by non-profits must be spayed/neutered and current on all vaccinations BEFORE they can go home with a new guardian. I think it's a great law! The $40 adoption fee I payed doesn't even cover that, and they also gave us a bag of food, a bag of litter, and a whole booklet of coupons from PetSmart! So I need to make a donation to "pay it forward," so Partners for Pets can keep rescuing dogs and cats and finding good forever homes for them. (I prefer the term "guardian" over "owner" because I don't think a being can really "own" another being.) And I'm also a big advocate for spaying/neutering pets and for TNR for ferral cats. Steph, we have coyote issues here too, though probably not nearly as severe as yours. Bentley is strictly an indoor only cat, but I do worry about what would happen if he ever got out. We've been advised that when we put in a pet yard after Joy gets her dog, that 6' high is the minimum the fence can be, because coyotes can easily jump over anything lower. I want to do a top on it like you have. We also will need a 6' fence when we plant our veggie/berry garden next spring, but that's for deer, lol!

Bentley thanks you for all the kind words! :-)

What an elegant, dignified creature! I agree about keeping cats indoors, especially for the sake of birds. Our Schrodinger lived to be 21 years old, and I think it was largely because she never went outdoors, getting into trouble as cats do sometimes.

I agree that Bentley is a very regal looking cat. I love his area for watching his world go by. And you are lucky to have a snuggler. My cat is quite affectionate, but definitely on his own terms. I wish you many happy years with your new kitty.
