We had bad luck with Stearns and Foster King bed. It was a hybrid latex, foam and coils I believe. $2400. Warranty not honored (never expect a mattress warranty to be honored, IMO). Sagged after less than a year and we are skinny 105 lb and 180 lb. Also had a queen of the same brand/type that sagged.

Ugh yes I know the warranties are nonsense. I am starting to think the way to go is to just spend like $1k and plan to buy a new one every 4 years or so. I will check that site though! Thanks!

queen size 8" memory foam $150 8 years. just saying sometimes the difference between $1000 and much less or Walmart versus special store? not so much.

I have a memory foam from costco 10 yrs old and still comfy.

Avignon, we had the same thing happen with our S&F bed. Do you still have yours? I bought two pieces of high density foam, 2x3' and slipped under the sags. It pushed them right back up.

Sorry OP for going off subject. If you don't want latex or memory foam, I'm afraid your only option is to replace every few years. I have read mattresses today are only made to last 5-8 years, regardless of what the warranty says.

It's a third of your life. Buy a mattress that can be FLIPPED, versus a pillow top which is built in obsolescence!!. Lie down on all of them. You tend to get what you pay for, but beware of fancy coverings that are just that. Comfort is very personal.

Or get a "Sleep Number" mattress. Every single client that has one, swears by them. And there is nothing to self destruct, or to flip. It seems to be a universal love!!

I have a top of the line Serta Pillow Top Mattress and I absolutely love it! I did lay on the mattress for about a half hour to make sure it was the one I wanted. You can move it around, which we do a couple times a year. You just can't flip it, which is fine with me. With Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis, I can't stand sleeping on any other mattress!

we bought a serta pillow top two or three years ago. generally, I've been pretty happy, but I do hate that I can't flip it like my old matress (it's over 20 years old now and was amazing up until year 19), and I really wish I had known how hot a pillow top is. night time cuddling is no more, it's just too dang hot now

I agree with getting a flippable mattress, but they are really hard to find in an affordable price range.

Look for a local shop that makes their own mattresses. I will never buy a name-brand again. Wonderful and a real price-performer!

Bought our pillow top at Jordan's over a decade ago and it's still going strong. It has been the most comfortable bed ever. We will be replacing soon because the thought of 10 years of dust mites, drool, body sweat grosses me out, but structurally it's still sound and we're still sleeping quite soundly in it. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat but I doubt they make the exact same model anymore, after all this time.

I could tell you the brand and model info but my understanding is that mattresses are the biggest racket going and you will not be able to find the same exact one in your locality or online -- this is to prevent price shopping. I don't remember what we paid but at the time I was suffering from horrible back problems and supposed fibromyalgia, so I was willing to pay top $ and we did. Best investment ever, as back problems and supposed fibromyalgia went away and did not come back. Now I tell anyone with back problems/fibromyalgia to change out their mattress before resorting to more drastic measures like medications and surgery.

I previously owned a Serta iComfort hybrid mattress which I loved then 6 months after I purchased that I actually won a Tempurpedic Flex mattress (which is the new tempurpedic hybrid mattress). I loved both of them, I'm currently sleeping on the Tempurpedic and have been for the past year and I actually like it better than the original mattress I bought. I try to rotate it every few months to make sure its being broken in evenly. Finding a mattress that's right for you is a very personal decision, before I purchased my first mattress I laid on it a million times in the store! I personally love the hybrid mattresses because you get the support of memory foam while still being able to move around. You have to find whats right for you!

We just got a Leesa mattress a few weeks ago to try...we figured it was worth seeing if we liked it because of the 100 day full return period and it had the possibility of saving us a lot of money if we liked it.

So far we love it! I sleep very hot and find the Leesa fairly cool to sleep on. We were both comfortable from the get go...no adjustment period which is to be expected. I was prepared to be uncomfortable for a few weeks but it's been great. I'm a stomach and side sleeper and my husband is a back and side sleeper and we both find it perfect. My only gripe is that the mattress is not as thick as the ones I'm used to (it's 10") so my bed looks lower to the ground...but that's obviously not important! I hope it lasts a long time because it's very comfortable and is awesome so far!

The other beds I considered trying (also great return policies) were Casper and Helix. The Helix bed can be customized to each person's preferences on each half of the bed.

Depo - yes, we still have both as I dread mattress shopping and am always looking. These mattresses were a result of trading in temperpedic-like mattresses (long story, warranty was not honored) and it was a hellish experience.

We have put 3" latex ($300) mattress toppers on each but can still feel the sagging thru.

Previously, I have tried two cheaper ($1000) mattresses from Costco because of their generous return policy. They were terribly hard even with mattress pads.

I haven't seen a flippable mattress in a long time. I will check out Leesa and Casper - thanks for posting those.

And yes, warranties on mattresses are pure baloney.
