Love the brick- is is updated with a white wash?

The brick looks modernized and refreshed. Is it a white wash? I'm thinking of whitewashing the brick around my pool and was told it was a no-no

    This brick is actually "manufactured used brick" and is installed with the color/finish as seen. I have never heard of whitewashing brick paving, but it can most likely be done on walls.
