The very first thing i see is the lack of 3s. when doing a room they say you have 3 of every color. does not hold true of taupe, blue or white? i really don't like white on dark, unless it has a pattern. so let me give some alternatives to mix with your pillows. some have enough white to bring in your other white, but most don't

My suggestion would be to 1st find a rug you love then use the rug and furniture colors/style as a base to build a beautiful room. Make sure the rug is big enough, pull the sofas forward, just a little, toward each other.

As suggested get a great rug, pull furniture closer together, couches on either side of fireplace, or "L" maybe? take the two/ two ornaments on mantel and fireplace, adjust to 3, 1, put one on end table. get a black something, vase, pot, stack some books on a table and a couple live plants. Hang your art, relax and enjoy.

Hi ReNata - your room is going to be very chic - you've made a great start:) With dark furniture, floors and artwork, I think you need light walls and rug. My suggestions:

I am not a fan of the pieces on the mantel or hearth. With the tv, the are too short and round. Get paint for metal and paint the brass on fireplace screen black. The artwork looks really dark and with TV, fireplace and sofas and ottoman too much dark stuff. Once you paint walls, reassess art work. I think some different metals would help. Might check out some " multi-media artwork that would have some depth and dimension which would help pull all your pieces together. A sofa table behind the one sofa would help give another surface. The deco sculptures on mantel would be nice on a sofa table. You have the bones, now you need the meat on the bones. I will look for some photos to help you visualize my words.

Imagine your fireplace painted a darker grey (not sure of color of sofa and loveseat? are they gray or brown?) but this fireplace shows the TV above (different style, but just for ideas) so you could paint your fireplace surround and on up that width of the wall the darker gray. The TV would be less noticeable and then some BIG art work on the left side of the fireplace would be stunning. Something simple like this poster on the left of fireplace and TV. Also, notice how the metal vase and simple green leafs make a big statement. Simple but great. You could do something like that with a tray and one of your vases on the hearth? You can repeat the black of the TV with the simple framing like in this photo above. Another arrangement with the "L" shape mentioned earlier. Note the shawl over the ottoman. That is a nice look. Tray on ottoman is a must. The metal trunks you have need to be featured somehow. Perhaps you could stack them to the left of the fireplace with them facing out into the room. They would almost create a "chest" affect and the large artwork could hang over that. I would try that. First, Rug, then moving main furniture pieces so at least the front legs fit onto the rug. Then get them enough away from the fireplace hearth that you can stack those metal cases like a chest. On the other ends from the fireplace, but your end tables. Not sure if those are keepers? The end tables should be about the height of the arms of your sofa, so a person can access them sitting on the sofa. A sofa table will go on the back of the sofa/loveseat that backs to dining room. A tall dark pot, with tall branches (slim) on the right side of fireplace would finish that wall. Less is more!

Once you have painted, and gotten the rug, I think you will see things in a more integrated way. Watch what color you paint the walls. On our monitors, we all see different shades and colors. So you have to decide which colors work.

PAINT: Two colors that work really well, depending on if you want a more gray look, or beige/gray look are: SW (Sherwin Williams) on the gray side SW7029-Agreeable Gray; on the more beige side SW 7036 Accessible Beige. They are good in most light, both natural and artificial and they blend with most styles. The Accent color for the fireplace surround and the wall space above it (straight up to the ceiling) could be: SW Night Owl 7061 or SW 7082 Sensuous Gray. BUT, you have to get samples and put on white boards two coats of these deeper colors and check all paint out in your room at different times of the day and night, so you can get a good appreciation for the tones, etc. I would make sure the tones are consistent with the color of your sofas. That is key here. Not matchy matchy, but in the same "color family". You have some good things going here. Hope this helps. I can see this room being very chic and stylish, while at the same time inviting and comfy! Good job! BTW, you can mix the taupey brown grays (like I think your sofas are) with the grays and brown tones, so that can all work.

Just some ideas for rugs. I think you need something a bit lighter on the floor to brighten space up a bit; avoid "viscose fibers" (too delicate); wool is best, but $$$; you will have to see rugs in your space, in your light and with your main furniture pieces to make sure they don't "fight"! Rugs are HARD to find just the right thing, but that is next step for you. You can take blue painter's tape and tape out where you want the rug, then measure that space. That will give "guideline" for sizing for rug. I am guessing you will need around 8' x 10'. All rugs measure differently, so when they say "8x10", they might mean 8'-2" by 9'11". So just be aware of that. Size will depend on how far apart you ultimately place the sofa pieces, so try the "blue tape" technique. Available at all Home Depot's, Lowe's, SW paint stores, etc. It is less sticky, so won't damage flooring. Don't leave it on a long time though, might leave some residue. Just saying...

A large area rug! Something lighter in color, probably a geometric design with some gray in it. Your problem is dark furniture on dark floors. It feels like a cave. You also may also need table and floor lamps and an accent color in accessories.

Here are some ideas for a large piece of art work or deco for the wall to the left of the fireplace, assuming you paint the fireplace surround and upper wall with the darker paint color to highlight that area and diminish the look of the TV. Just for dreaming! Some are pricey, but I include them to give you the "vision".

The above examples are not right size, but you could frame them in acrylic framing and make that higher on both top and bottom. In other words, you need something about 30" wide and 5' high. Dreamy.

Are the sofas the same size, they don't look it. If that's a love seat then they should be in the L shape arrangement.

Can you tell me how deep those sofas sit? I want them and can't find the seat depth online...

I like everything you have except the paintings are too dark for everything else. I love the silver w it though! I wouldn't change much, just ADD a bright rug, paint color, and decor

these come in different sizes and colors just select 2 or 3 for each seat to offset all the dark.

the wall color is fine. i would not go darker, otherwise you won't be able to see anything.
