Some varieties like heat better than others. I'm not sure what those are, but it's pretty hot here. I have one tree, Violette de Bordeaux, which is a cool weather fig. It does not do well here. The figs are mostly about the size of yours. They do get ripe however, but the skin stays tough. In spring, the Breba crop is delicious and those figs are big. Mine has been in ground here for 3 years. It's on a drip system for 45 minutes 3 x per week since we have drought mandates here.

I have another tree, cool weather variety, that is in the shade of the house and only gets morning and noon sun. Figs on that are huge! BUT it's sister from a cutting taken at the same time as the shaded tree just does nothing and has never had a fig. It struggles in the sun.

Seek varieties that do well in the heat. My Bourgosotte Gris is just going nuts! Verte as well. Nice prolific trees! Paridiso is doing great! Kadota is a winner in heat.

We have lived here 3 years, and sometimes in ground trees must get used to their spot. Mine have taken the full 3 years to take off, but I have others who are stunted by either the harsh land, the harsh weather, or the lack of abundant water.

Figs are like weeds. Hard to kill them, but when they FINALLY get established, they can be very rewarding.

Kadota is a dream fig fresh. I think yours just needs to get established. You won't easily find Bourgosotte Gris, but if you remind me in January with a GW email, I'll ship you a few cuttings. The figs are large, rich and juicy. 2 crops. The leaves don't wilt in the heat.
