Kitchen Layout Feedback

We are in the final stages of our kitchen renovation design and wanted to get a sanity check before we reach the point of no return. Attached is a plan view of the original layout of the first floor, the revised plan view of the first floor of the house, a more detailed plan view of the new kitchen, and elevations of our 2 main cabinet runs and island. The project also includes the addition of a small powder room which is shown in the plan view. A few details about how we use the kitchen:

- kitchen gets heavy use for both cooking and baking (often at the same time)

- a lot of entertaining with group cooking

Appreciate any feedback on layout, flow, cabinets, and placement of appliances.

Thank you in advance!

You need to flip your dishwasher to the left side of the sink so it's not in the prep area. Ideally, you'd have the fridge closer to the sink without the cooktop in between but I don't see a good way to do that.

Great suggestion. Yeah we struggled with the fridge placement too but was really tough to find a workable design with it in the middle. Tx!

What is in that niche that shares the wall with the powder room? If you remove that, maybe you can rotate the island and put a prep sink on it. That would give you a work triangle between the fridge, range, and prep sink, and a separate cleanup sink.

    Why the different sized windows?

Can the toilet move so you don't always see it when people don't close the pocket door?

That's their pantry which is why I didn't suggest what you did emilyam. I originally though the same as you and then realized there was no place else for the pantries.

I agree with emilyam about moving the toilet. I'd move it next to the sink against the pantry wall

Thanks, cp. I see it labeled now. I thought next to the fridge was a pantry...?

Thanks Emilyam. Next to the fridge are 2 pull out pantries. The other "pantry" is for additional small appliance storage, cookbooks, a concealed bar area, etc. We really need that space. Great suggestion on the toilet. We may have an issue with that because of a beam that runs up behind the pantry. It is a wall hung toilet so requires so extra plumbing in the wall. But will check on that.

Oh and the windows was a design choice by our architect. We kind of liked the asymmetry of the window configuration. The left 2 crank out and the right one is a fixed picture window.

Ok. My other idea was shrinking the windows a bit in order to put fridge, dishwasher, and sink on that wall, in that order.
