Tiny little ... armadillos?

Hi all!
First, I can't get a picture because they're too small for my camera. They're just gray/brown fuzzy spots.

That said, I seem to have these 1/8" or so, gray/brown, teardrop shaped, tailless armadillos eating the leaves of my Japanese maples. They're turning them into lace, unlike laceleaves, just eating everything between the leaf's ribs.

Ok, I know they're no relation to armadillos, but that was my very first thought.
With this crazy description, any thoughts?
I should probably mention, Sevin doesn't kill 'em.

Thanks for your thoughts.
