Best Fabric to make a shade for Weeping J. Maple

I could not figure out where to place my question, but hopefully someone out here can help me.

I planted a Green Weeping Japanese Maple (sorry I can't be more specific about it's name - I lost the tag) in the spring. The 30 year old Linden towering over the Maple is very slow to leaf out in late spring, creating an overly sunny environment for the J. Maple (after it leafs out - it is very shady). The leaves of my poor Maple were singed this spring due to the hot sun.

Next year I would like to create a temporary framed fabric shade for the Maple, but am unsure what type of fabric would be best for this. I will need something that does not degrade too quickly, yet allows rain and some light to get through. Anyone out there have any creative ideas? Any other suggestions as an alternative to a fabric shade would be welcome.
