Also any ideas about something to guide it on the floor so it doesn't sway? I've seen things like this but we have tile not wood!

I am of the opinion that not all wood finishes need to match. By the looks of it, your unfinished barn door coordinates well with all your other furniture (couch, rug, planter, chair and tile, wall color). The dark hardware of the door ties in well with your dark wood pieces too.

I would do a clear stain finish to protect the wood, and maintain same tones. However, if you go this route, make sure you test the "clear finish" before you do a major portion. I re-finished a table and had to purchase a few different "clear finishes" because they kept tinting the wood either red or orange. I finally found one that enhanced the wood grain rather than tinting, and was a true "clear finish".

I agree w Glo Euro, tho like your pic- tho I'd pick a lighter grey whitewash- not so much blue. andI would follow Glo Euro advice to protect after, whatever you decide.
