Yeah, we all want one one of those, but sadly in reality, we know we won't be getting one anytime soon :-/ Take it that it's an advert for the greenhouse company rather than one you've seen in person? It's fantastic. I need to do some maintainence on my g/h before winter sets in. It was built hastily several years ago when our previous two were trashed but out of a load of softwood beams my d/h bought for £5. The wood also fenced off the gardens of two of our children and made lots of other items including two pergolas. All the glass was salvaged from the smashed up g/h's, it being toughened glass, so the new g/h was 'built around' the size glass we had. Am awaiting a quote for a replacement UPVC one, but guess it will be out of my league now :-/ Trouble is I can't function without a g/h.

Yes, we do all want one of those. Dreaming is a wonderful thing. LOL All kidding aside, I am sure yours will be enjoys for many years. Looking forward to pictures of the finished product.

Gill, I want a glimpse of your greenhouse! Fortunately, I do not have any plant that needs one. I just needed a protected semi-shaded area for my other succulents. With the screen, the temperature in there is about 2 degrees lower than the deck where it often hits 37C (oh okay...37 times 9 over 5 plus 32...98 point something F). Up there, in full sun, my adeniums are very happy.
Oh just FYI, I did not build the pergola, it came with the house. I only put screens and the door and now I'm doing the roof. P

So I'm nearly done with the roof frame thingie. Screws for the plastic roof panels turned out to be so rare I had to order them online. I have removed the screen on top but I needed the shade cloth to be up so I just sort of screwed it on very loosely while I work on the roof above it.

Someone thought it was his hammock.

Looks like the cat is comfortable. Maybe you could build him a hammock!! He would appreciate it.

Awesome, your tiny project has morphed. We call that scope creep in the software industry. Looking great. Love the cat nap photos. Do continue to post them. Oh and I don't just want greenhouse. I want a solarium too!

Pagan, here's the pics of the greenhouse, as you can see its not on the scale of the Kew Garden like one you posted.....sigh...but for under a tenner all in! It's bolted to the side of the garage block to prevent it from being blown down again. The other g/h was aluminium and was on the concrete base of both the blue pergola and the gravel area which was my chipmunk house base in a previous life. I need to paint the smaller pergola...at some point in time.

I was surprised to see that, but knowing that you also grow adenium, I shouldn't be!

In a perfect environment, they grow 4+ feet per year!

Hello Jerry, I have thirteen palms altogether! Yes, you are correct that one is indeed a Washingtonia robusta,/ Mexican fan Palm....one of two I've grown from seed, I do know how big they 'can' grow, lol. The other one in the foreground is a Phoenix canariensis also grown from seed I collected. My other palms are chamaerops and trachycarpus varieties I've grown on from tiny seedlngs I've bought off eBay, swapped or been given. :-) They all have to hop back into the g/h for winter along with several other pots so you see why I need it! The Mexican fan palms are rising up out of their pots, they will have to last this year and maybe I'll get bigger ones in 2017 :-0 they look like getting to the six leaf stage by the end of this current season, so may loose a couple during the coming winter, but this has been their best year so far.

Gill, have you ever tried Lady Palms (Rhapis Excelsa)? they don't need full sun just bright light and are cold tolerant up to 30 degrees.

I grew this one from a piece of another plant.

This is the piece when i first put it in a pot.

Thanks, Jerry. It's actually the posts I am doubting---I am building on someone else's construction (pergola came with the house). I've been making furniture for a while now but I have no experience with actual structures. I probably should have started with a fence or something but I didn't need one.

Gill, your greenhouse is perfect though---just the right size, not too hard to heat just enough for me to keep my pachys and euphorbias in the sun in winter. So do you have orchids? I love the flowers, I hate the chore so I only have one.

Oh! I downloaded a click counter app and discovered I have 26 adeniums (excluding 10 seedlings that are not really mine) and 89 other kinds of succulents. Don't be alarmed though, most are small, slow-growing succulents and a lot are still seedlings. That doesn't compare to people who have been at it longer. But considering how picky I am, that is a lot! The hardest part is finding homes for redundant ones--I like to keep only one of each kind.

Sandy, I'm not familiar with that type. Very few palms are available here for obvious reasons though the DIY stores and garden centres do sell more these days. Twenty years ago they were a rare sight even as potted specimens but now hardy palms are seen growing outdoors more and more, especially in the south. I'm in Middle England btw. Never seen a lady Palm in the UK as far as I'm aware.

That remains to be seen, Conny. If we get four feet of snow, I'm not entirely sure how the structure will hold up. I have pitched the roof as conservatively as I can get away with for this zone....crossing all the paws!

I think it's a nice thread and Pagan! You did a fantastic job! It looks so nice! You could even clear seal that wood and leave it two toned as it is - it looks very good. Love the kitty.

I thought about that, Hyn. I just can't make up my mind yet and I am kind of beating the clock here--there is a pond on this property that has to be rebuilt before winter. It appears it was only being held up by the thick growth of English ivy and, surprise, poison ivy. I've been procrastinating that for two years now.

Terrific job on constructing the Haworthia house. I can't believe how complex it has become since the beginning. Looks great Pagan. Love the cat photos and the fact that he can just lay down and nap anywhere.

Oh Rick, I would take ten feet of billowing snow over freezing rain anytime. We got no more than 10 inches though---is it just us or is this winter kind of warm?

It's less than 10 feet from the ground, Tyler but I'm half that tall lol And I already disassembled the ladder I made to build the roof. I meant to put an additional support post inside but we've been getting nothing but rain so I didn't bother.

Alrighty, Martin. if you ever need a place to stay in the northeastern coast of the New World, the pergola is yours! You'll be amongst my haworthias and other plants besides. A mantis hatched in there last summer, maybe there will be another.

10 inches of snow? Wow. The past years we have only had a "sprinkle" of snow around here. Most of the time it is just bleak weather, cloudy, windy and rainy. It is so depressing. It it supposed to snow when it is winter! >:-(

On the other hand, the summers are getting warmer and more humid... I dislike it. As a true Norseman, I like harsh cold winters with blizzards and cool summers. ;-) I bet in 50 years the climate in Denmark will be more like Spain's.
