HI -- Just because they show stools in the show unit ... does not mean you have to have stools if you don't need them or are not going to use them. But if that is what you want then be careful the legs do not flare out so much . There isn't much room there for stools , so keep them very tailored in style . This is also where you can add a bit of color . But I think I would keep the stools in a neutral color such as white or black or a tan leather . Then they will always belong . Adding pops of color with Art and décor items or sofa cushions would work better in the long term . I think two stools is best or maybe three depending on the style . Urbanbarn.com has some great really comfy stools .

You love the red and they look great. Go for it.

Consider your standard group of friends. If 2 are enough, just do 2. If you are usually 2 couples, you might want to go for 3 (1 person is in the kitchen.)

I like the red and brown versions of that same stool -- depends on whether there will be other red in the space (say, in art on the walls) or whether they'll just be out there on their own carrying the decorative load.

I'm a huge fan of having color to liven up a home! However, since you mention that you are a renter and some barstools can be a bit pricey, I have 2 suggestions for you... This is coming from someone who has moved 3 times in the last 5 years :)

The first is to consider purchasing stools that have adjustable height/hydraulic lift, meaning they will work at either counter height or bar height (as you have in the apartment). Then should you move, they will always work (assuming you have a bar, island or peninsula).

Secondly, I think it may be smart to go for bar stools (and most furniture pieces) in neutral colors. Pops of color seem to be saved for art, lamps, pillows, rugs, curtains. Items that are more easily changed and lower cost.

OK, one more point! The size of the base of your stools and whether or not they have arms should factor into how many you choose for that space!

I don't have a lot of red in my place at all, and for the most part I'm not too concerned on the costs for the most part. Right now I'm looking at this as my primary "dining" area and currently don't entertain all that often but when I do there aren't that many people over. I'm somewhat wanting these carry the view away from my desk which will be on the wall behind it. Most of my art is a combination of Roy Lichtenstein and some other random Abstract/Contemporary art that I have acquired over the years.

But it seems like everyone is more or less in for the Red chair??
