I layer small ornamental stones or plain stones I gather in parks on top of the soil in the pots of my balcony jades, aquarium gravel works too but is more work to remove.

Thanks Mark, that was my first thought, but since several forum members in the past have spoken against using pebbles on top, I thought that maybe they had a good reason for saying so and I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize my Sans collection...

Hi Mary, I've run this around in my head for a few minutes and I can't think of another, or a better, way of keeping the soil mix from blowing out of your pots.

There's nothing wrong at all with top-dressing pots of sansevieria with gravel or stones, it just makes it harder to tell when they need watering. Top-dressing with gravel is a very attractive addition to a pot, and it would keep the wind from blowing the soil mix away. Check Ebay offerings of seller and expert grower Bodombilly, you'll see gravel top-dressing. If scraping a little gravel away to check the soil moisture isn't a big deal to you, that's what I would do.
