Cannot think of other uses right now, just don't throw the frame out just yet. Someone here will come along with some fresh ideas.

You have NO idea how upset I have been. Here in Germany we have no recourse for money back if a seller says no money back. That is just unfair. Somebody will do this to her one day. The mirror is awesome or was awesome. The glass was so thick, if she had packed it properly it woul dhave reached safely, she only wrapped a piece of thin cardboard over the thin wrapping and put normal scotch tape on it. I tried to find glass companies here who will do it, but becuase of the age and cut of the frame and mirror itself, not many are doing this anymore cuz its too expensive. Even a thin ordinary mirror will run over 300. I paiy close to 50 euros for it on ebay. I really wanted to use this in my decor. I am just heart broken. And after battling a bitter argument to get my money back, the seller just laughed at me and said its my tuff luck. I am so upset but there is nothing I can do. Ebay used to protect buyers now we have no recourse if they dont use paypal and she didnt.

I want to use the miorr frame some how but cant think of how to use it. I hope someone with some expertise can come along. Thanks for your post.

IMO the transporter could be at fault. Mirrors and glass should be transported upright and not flat.
Normally it shouldn't be too difficult to get glass or a mirror cut (just not a beveled one) and it shouldn't be overly expensive, I don't think.
You could ask an aspiring artist to stretch a canvas at the back and let them paint a Trompe l'oeuil for it.

The transport company is not liable becuase they have strict rules here how certain things should be packaged, this was one of them and her packaging was weak and poor. Yes, I also think regardless of the way it was packaged they should pay, but in germany, there are rules and these german people stick by the rules and I am just SOL. She is also at fault for not packaging a very breakable item properly but its my tuff luck as she said and she got my money and I got nada for it. The cheapest is 300 euros plus 19% vat and I cant afford that. The cut of the mirror is the problem. A normal mirror with no francy stuff will cost little but this has curles rounded areas and that is costly. Not sure about the painting thing, that will be horrendously expensive cuz nothing is cheap over here and no aspiring artist will do this for anything less than 1000. There must be something I can do with the frame. I dont have a picture so big. Now wondering if I can find just that right poster pic that might be cut to size and used in the frame, wond I still need a glass? Yeah, scrap that idea cuz I will still need a glass :(

DON'T throw the frame away.

Mirrors can have two frames....if you find a rectangular mirror in a larger size, you can just put your pretty frame on top (with no cutting of mirror). The eye goes more to the ornate frame, less to the outlines of the mirror.

WOW do you have a pic of one you can show me? Yes, Ikea has a big Oval mirror which I actually have in my house and have no unwrapped it yet which is indeed bigger. I am going to put it on that now and let you know how it looks. But if you have a pic of one in question I sure would love to see it. So the outside mirror does not need to have a frame? I just use the front part of the frame and not the backing?

Gutten Tag:) Perfect for a tile mosaic so long as it has a stable back. You can even repupose some of the broken mirror into it.

It is a lovely frame and I like that solution. Ideally I think it would be nicer with a rectangular mirror. But you know what, you can take it, carefully, to a mirror store and try it on all sorts of different ones till you are perfectly happy.

I have numerous options from Ikea all sizes and heights and widths so rectangular it will be. I only put it on this oval one to see the effect and i LOVE IT. I have my mirror again without paying hundreds. I will either repaint this frame or paint it to match the new frame, tho they will be quite different in pattern it may look dramatic. I love this idea. Would never ever have even thought of anything so.

It has a very thick wooden backing. I also thought of mosaic but then I dont know how to do that lol and there will be plenty of broken bits from this lovely mirror. Its not completely shattered but has three large pieces broken out. I love both ideas.
