Northern Lights Rhododendron

Does anyone have any experience with the Northern Lights Lemon Lights Rhododendron that could offer an opinion on where I'm considering growing one? It would be on the NW side of the house, getting about 2 1/2 hours of sunlight around 1:30-3:30PM. The bed has about 6 ft of open space and more could be made as it grows. The soil would stay moist, but not heavy and wet. It is the bed that has the hose connection and it also has a vent for the gas fireplace about 3ft up the side of the house. I've read they are slowing growing, which I would actually prefer for this location. Something showy that will also allow plenty of room for some other plants for the next few years. Thanks!

Hi Laura,

My understanding is that a LL Rhod tolerates full sun to part shade. So, it would need at least 4 hours of sun. If your bed only offers 2 1/2 hrs of sun then it is considered full shade. And best that it be morning sun vs. afternoon.
I'm guessing that you are in zone 4? None of these flower but they might work.

Grey Dogwood
Bleeding Heart
Compact Winged Burning Bush
Astilbe (some get 3 ft tall)
Some Ferns get Large
Empress Wu Hosta (4ft h)
Komodo Dragon Hosta (4ft h)
Sagae Hosta (4ft h)
T Rex Hosta (6ft h...GULP)
Hydrangeas as often listed as full shade...but I disagree
False Ash Spirea

Hi Sharon...thanks for the input. I watched the bed really close over the last few days and it's actually closer to 4 1/4 hours. Not sure how I was so wrong. It would be from about 1-5PM. I did plant some Astilbe in this location and some Bleeding Heart...there was also a very large hosta that was in place when I bought the house. I have several locations here with different conditions that I am looking for ideas and will post soon...hope to have more of your suggestions!
