I'd suggest picking a counter that has a bit of the bronze color in it. In my head, a black counter with bronze fixture has neither enough contrast, but is too similar, without being the same. I just picture it feeling a bit off.

What color will your cabinets be...

I am not sure as of right now. Maybe a red oak is what I'm thinking but I'm waiting to put everything else together first to tie in the cabinets.

If your cabinets aren't going to be a very light, contrasting colour, then that is a lot of dark elements in one room. Like zealart mentioned, black counters with oil rubbed bronze fixtures will have very little contrast - that kind of renders them both mute as neither one can really shine against the other.

If you're really set on both these features though, I'd definitely consider a white tile backsplash and/or white to off-white cabinets to add the contrast and light that you need in a kitchen.

There are so many metal finish options...a darker brushed silver could be a great alternative to dark on dark. Contrast really adds the wow element in design.
