Does the pot have a drainage hole?

In considering nothing other than the odds, its most likely "over-potted" and "over-watered" will be the foundation most comments are based on. On its face, it would seem that the fix requires little more than a little self-restraining of the extra-exuberant hand that rocks the watering can, but that's only part of the issue. Your choice of soils plays a very significant part in what you'll ultimately be able to offer your plant in terms of how much of its genetic potential it will be able to realize.

Thanks! No, there is no drainage hole. But I put a layer of rocks at the bottom to manage any extra water...

Rocks won't help the water drain if there is no hole, and even then it won't help it drain faster. I've read from others on the forum that it just leaves less space for roots to grow. I do love the pot-it looks very nice and complements the plant well, but it's hard to water a plant correctly if there's no drainage hole. I think the easiest route would be to repot it into a pot with a drainage hole, then if you feel like it put that pot into the decorative pot-if it fits.
