What style is the rest of the place ?

Hi Patricia! We are going for a modern farmhouse style. We have looked at options like a bench, windsor chairs, metal cafe chairs and a few upholstered options. The challenge I am having is that we spend a ton of time at the table and the chairs need to be comfortable to sit in and either "boy-proof" or easily washable. The dining room has picture frame molding below a chair rail (all painted white) and a neutral "greige" tone above.

We paired our rustic table with upholstered host chairs and painted our Windsor chairs.

Wonderful table! Let it be the star and keep your chairs complementary, but not competing with your table. I'd go metal (is that also the base of your table?). Add a replaceable cushion for comfort.

• We plan to replace the rug at some point, just using what we have for now.
• The floors are oak with a gunstock finish (Bruce flooring)
• The base of the table is iron painted black

If you want something sturdy for your active boys why not go with metal chairs? Something comfortable yet well-finished and dressy enough so that it doesn't look like patio chairs. Take a look at the style Board below. We paired a vintage English Regency Table with half a dozen modern shiny Black Metal chairs in a client's Dining Room. These chairs are remarkably inexpensive and take a lot of beating. I think these chairs will work really well with your table. The black lacquer finish will contrast nicely with the wood tones and make the room pop!
