How do you press a large quilt top?

I'm struggling with how to efficiently give large tops a final press prior to quilting. My ridiculous process right now is to put my ironing board next to my dining room table. I first press from the backside to ensure all the seams are going the right way. Then I press from the top side. And then I flip it over (again) to recheck the seams. I use the dining room table to help support the quilt. Also, what, if anything, do you use when you press (sizing, starch, water, best press, something else)? Thanks!

Jennifer, that's one of my challenges, too! Also pressing as a top is assembled.

If there is something you can put on your table to protect it, you could iron on it. Using it to help support the weight is a great idea!

I have a folding cutting table from JoAnn's and the ironing cover for it. Sometimes I use it, but usually I just struggle with trying to press on my ironing board.

I am fortunate enough to have a LARGE ironing table DH built me. Before that I had to lay it on the floor or my bed to iron it.

Jennifer...I do what you do! I don't want it flopping and crinkling on the floor..so I just keep feeding it across the table as I go.
