Old Cedar Picnic table finish

Neighbor wants an old cedar picnic table refinished after I
cleaned & power washed it.

She wants a natural finish, Should I consider a semi-transparent
stain seems like a good method (even though I think all transparent wear much
too fast as opposed to solid stains , esp. on flat surfaces! need to coat every year!) the solid would counteract
the natural look.

Or should I stick with a wipe on poly?? I do most of my
garden tool handles with this.

I called a few paint shops they recommend “TWP” and “Super
Deck” both oil and translucent.

opinions?

Do not use a poly. It has zero resistance to sun exposure and will turn into a peeling mess.

Any exterior finish will need periodic refinishing. Fact of life. Marine spar varnishes are probably the longest lasting, but those have a huge variance in longevity. The brands that last the longest cost upwards of $70 a quart. And that table would need at least two quarts initially.

An off the shelf spar varnish from a real paint store(to insure fresh product since the stuff on home improvement store shelves can be years out of date) will last a couple years before needing a spot sand and refinish.
