Something eating my tomatoes & now made a grey web on one

My tomatoes are finally getting ripe and something keeps getting them. Whatever it is manages to eat half of a large tomato in less than a day and there will be a whole side gone from the tomato as if someone took a bite out of it. The tomatoes are in a raised bed that is 18" tall and then has another 18" of chicken wire above the edge. There are some holes in leaves but not an alarming number, whatever it is seems to prefer the fruit. Today I got another clue, I came home to discover a grey/white dense spider web like material covering about a 2" diameter portion of the side of one of my tomatoes. In the web there are tiny black speckles. When I peeled back part of the web the thing had eaten through the outside of the tomato and there was something white and squishy. Any ideas about what this could be and how to get rid of it? I have been looking for worms or caterpillars and have sprayed the plants with Sevin at the beginning of the week and it has not been deterred.
