That's ok. That's a hard one to post anywhere on Gardenweb. I was a master gardener for 3 years. We had a big area of plants that people brought in to display and hopefully win. The judges were supposed to be experts from another county. There's a fool born every minute. There was no reason for that judge to do that!

There is a competitive flower show circuit - my mom was a certified judge and it took classes and exams and time. But at a county fair you would be lucky to get a good gardener.

One of the criteria for judging in some classes is the condition of the flowers, so it's not unheard of for a judge to pull a flower to look at the petals to see if any have been pulled for cosmetic reasons (for some classes, that's prohibited, for others it's OK).
