Color Crazy!

We're about to close on a house next week and aren't ready to do big renos on the two downstairs bathrooms. The home was built in the 60s and I'm pretty sure the tile is original. Looking for paint colors that can tone down the tile or is it possible to paint tile somehow?

I agree, it's nice. To me what doesn't work is the 2nd room's wood stain. It could be much prettier in a softer neutral. Never used it, but several on houzz say it's not hard: no sanding!

I agree that the wood stain is not best. I'd replace with white. And the one color to compliment both would be yellow.

I would probably try to work with the tile as it is. It looks like it was painstakingly done, and it has character!

It would be a mistake to fight it.

I like them too! The green/blue, especially, looks very fresh and clean, especially against the white. Paint the vanity in the violet room, or get a new one, and you'll be good to go.

That's an easy thing to do. Look closely at both tiles and find a subtle color in them that you like.

Actually both the bathroom colours are nice and no need to change them. You can decorate your bathroom accordingly.

While they may not be your first choice, they definitely are manageable for the time being. Remember, hanging a shower curtain is going to do a lot to hide most of what's hitting the eye right now. Definitely paint the lavender bath's vanity. We'd suggest green as a complement to both colors whether via art or plants...works for Mother Nature;)

White vanity, or even green imo gives a 'garden look'.... Bev's grey vanity/ or lighter probably, would be more sophisticated ... just softer?? well depends on what your home looks like in general - more photos?

Try B.M. eclipse on the walls. It looks beautiful with the light aqua and gives a nod to the stainless trims.

Try B.M. nimbus green in the other bathroom. Again, perfect with the tile.

these are seriously the tiles you inherited??? Love, love, love it! I would keep it and work with it. I think they are awesome!

change out both vanities to something more slick and white -- also, don't know what's on the floor. Make the tile the star. I would probably paint both bathrooms white, also.

Terrific tile in both bathrooms. I love the tub too. Unique but well done.

I love them!!!! Personally I'd play them up. Get paint samples before you do anything and think about it. I have a 1950s bathroom with pink fixtures, pink flower tile in tub, that I can't afford to change or reno. Plus original black with pink marble counter. I had a lot of fun doing and get many complements. I painted trims and ceiling white. Walls and cabinet wood quite a dark colour. BM Louisiana hot sauce. You might consider a darker purple or lavender for the purple bathroom. My only other expenses were new light fixture. About 50 dollars. A great mirror with wide silver frame on sale. About 70 dollars. A beautiful white shower curtain from aanthrpologie. That was most expensive. Plus I have white towels. These small changes made hideous shocking bathroom quite nice and also unique. Someday I'll have enough saved to renovate it but I'll be sort of sad. I adore your bathrooms. They are really cool and you can have a lot of fun with them. You're getting lots of great advice here. Please post photos hen you're done!
