Anemanthele lessoniana (new name) is an evergreen perennial grass in my climate. I have never attempted to grow it from seed although it will self-seed to some degree when established and happy in its setting.

If you can find seed, I'd try it as a winter sown crop but have no idea how long it would take to develop into a decent sized plant. Most ornamental grasses do not have much of an impact their first couple of season when grown from seed so growing this as an annual or single season plant may not produce the results you desire.

I have seedlings from this grass and I think it is several years before they grow up enough to look like a specimen. So, no, I don't think you can expect much from seed in one year.

I‘m adding another reply to an old thread - I’m growing this from seed this year also. I started them in late January and got pretty decent germination rates. They are about an inch and a half tall right now.

An update on my stipa seedlings... they are coming along nicely.
