Found Deep in My Closet

Hello Folks,

So I thought I was going to have to move & have been going through closets & purging (28 yrs worth, yikes).

Look what I found hiding deep in the back. It was the largest thing I'd done to date & I had lots of trouble pushing its volume through my old Singer at home. Think I gave up in frustration.

Looks like very high loft batting, what I call extra 'poufy'. Guess that's all I knew of at the time.

That's basting in the outer border; I still think that might be a nice way to quilt it.

Overall I still rather like these blocks & their placement along w/ the high contrast of using them w/ unbleached muslin.

Gotta say I still love turquoise just as much.

Kinda cool to look back on one's own work many yrs. later & find that you still like the same things about it.

Lena, What a great quilt! I remember that some of my first quilts were done with that same puffy batting. I love the color combination and I am sure I have made that same block. Wish I could remember the name of it! Finish it and be happy!

That's going to be a great quilt. That's always been one of my favorite patterns. Finish that project off and it's going to be a winner.

I remember using that batting many years ago, too. I like your quilt and maybe you could finish it up and be proud of your early work.

My first quilt was a QAYG and is still unfinished, (from 1982) hanging in a closet. Maybe I Should follow my own advice and finish it. LOL

I really like turquoise, too. Not too much to finish. It will make you feel good to have it done and be able to enjoy it.

It's a very pretty quilt, Lena. I agree with Linda that that is a very cool block. Do you know what it is called?

Thanks Ladies, for the kind words.

I don't know what it's called, I probably got it from Quilters Newsletter Magazine, my Quilt Teacher before the Internet.

My Mother was a weaver & taught me to weave as a child. This pattern reminds me of a style of Weaving called Overshot, kind of always makes me smile.

Nicely done, Lena. I have always liked using and seeing unbleached muslin in a quilt and I still do.

Thanks, I love this block too, interesting to see folks so warm to it & the unbleached muslin too.

I'd packed up all my QNM issues thinking to donate them as I thought I was moving. Seems I'm not (thank G_d), it's a whole BOXFUL of issues, of course I'm sure this block wasn't on the cover (that's be too easy, right)? Should I find the block name, I'll give a holler.

Thanks for the encouragement, I like it just the way it is really, the graphic quality of it.
