what color should i paint my foundation?

I painting my house a very dark grey and the trim is all white. I have at least a foot and a half of foundation showing all around the entire house and I think I need to paint it. should I paint it the same color as the house or white or a lighter grey? Just so I don't freak anyone out... the house is not finished being painted yet so the red on the upper half will be gone.
