nice new growth. even mine start out as dark leaves n the fruitlets certainly look alien.

btw do tell me if u come across a Santa Teresa lemon with any of your suppliers . that's on top of my wish list but so far haven't had any luck

Good looking growth and flowers; the dark color indicates you are taking good care of the tree.

Thanks guys! This was one of the trees that arrived with the chlorosis of the leaves from being in the box... colour is slowly creeping back.

I did go ahead and order that bush key lime and I think it is going to be a monster as she said the box she needed was huge. Also a palestine sweet lime is en route and then that is it- finito for this year! (I think)

Oh and dev, yes will do about the santa theresa, I def want one too next season! I think we will have luck with Phoenix Perrenials and perhaps Bob and Verna Duncan being willing to try and find us unique items. Actually I really like Perry at Flora Exotica too, he has always been very helpful with my orders. We will work together!

Wow! That new growth is just beautiful! I have never seen flower buds on citrus get such a dark color..

I plan on ordering a Buddha's Hand possibly next season. I love citron...

The new growth of leaves on my Bearss Lemon are a pretty purple, but, not quite as dark as the Buddha's Hand.

Thanks Mike! I got this tree from Sage Gardens along with a variegated kumquat... these are the people that Maggy always raved about getting her Kishu from. They are very nice people and really take care of their trees, he tries not to import so I believe both of these were his graft work. I am probably most excited to get a fruit from this tree... not sure if any of these flowers will make it but someday.

The plant and fruits are extremely unique and interesting - definitely a conversation piece. The reason I don't have one (yet) is because I can't think of many uses for the fruit. I am mostly interested in culinary uses. What do you guys do with them?

I make candied Peel or Marmalade , chop it up add some mandarins/orange , sugar n pinch of star anise .

I would definitely candy the peel and make an extract. I might even find a decorative jar with a lid and just put a whole hand in there with everclear and just keep it as a knickknack conversation piece. I think it would preserve well in there? Would that be weird? Lol

apparently there are around 12 cultivars/variations in China. the closed hand is considered auspicious in Chinese culture .

Dev you have inspired major new interest in the different citrons for me. I googled a pic of an immature Buddhas hand growing and it was so freaky looking and jet black and a perfect hand in miniature! Did yours look like that? Can't wait to see if I will get any.

I also read that the white pith of the hand isn't bitter at all so you can actually candy and eat the whole thing not just the peel? Not sure if you did that? Now I really can't wait for the flowers to develop.

yeah the Buddha's hand had no juice all pith . I chopped it up n directly used it . the cedro I soak the peel n pith n water for 2days changing the water a few times then use it.

it has very floral citrus flavor.

Yes Laura same here, yesterday I actually went and lined up some of my buckets in my grow room to see how many I can actually fit per row. I kind of forgot that I need to leave room for me to actually walk around and water and tend to them properly. They will all fit but it will be very tight and I will need to use my shelves for the smaller ones, which means I need to reinforce the shelves for the added weight and add more lights.

There will definitely be no room for seed starting in there so hopefully we get an early spring again so I can get them outside early. Yikes it's going to be crazy in there! Waiting for the I told you so from my husband lol.

How are you going to manage your watering? I have a floor drain so I can just let them pour through but what do you do in winter? Maybe I shouldn't have brought that up!

I have saucers and water carefully. The room most will be in is tiled, so I can clean it relatively easily. In my case, I don't have the option of letting the water run through in the winter. I've not tried yet, but did do a rough calculation. I suspect I'm going to need more lights.

Hobbyartisan your post really made me giggle. I so can see me squeezing between the pots to water them all. Maybe I need to loose some weight.
