Do bedroom lamps have to match?

In our master bedroom, we do not have matching nightstands. My husband's nightstand is a different height and sits higher than the one on my side. I'm told that it's ok to have different night stands and lamps in the same bedroom, but it keeps bothering me that the lamps are different heights. I'm considering using different lamps but keeping the same height. Would love some advice!

I'm sure there are people who do not care if their lamps match or not but I'm not one of them! I'm old school when it comes to matching lamps in any room, not just a bedroom. If they do not match exactly, I prefer them to at least be the same color and similar style! I would also want them to be the same height for symmetry.

Nothing wrong with having two different night stands. But to tie things together it's best to have the lamps match. And night stands should really be the same height.

I must be old school as well. I like the symmetry. I don't mind having two different styles but the matching lamps that hit different heights just bug me since they are side by side (on either side of the bed). I've seen other photos where the lamps are different but they're not along the same wall. I think I might need to get another lamp that's shorter on his side or find something to prop up the one on my side a bit.

You can do something as simple as placing a book or two or a decorative box under the lower lamp to raise it up. And no, not everything needs to match unless you prefer it to.
