I'd consider a carpet to distinguish this area from the others because it's such an open plan. I'm personally not crazy about the chair, but there's nothing objectionable about them. One piece of advice: make sure what ever you choose has exposed legs, because it appears that everything you use (or plan to use) has legs hidden by skirts. This will visually "open" up the room a bit. Good luck!

Thank you blixa93! The open legs on the chair was part of the appeal to me( as well as color!). What type of area rug would you suggest? The sofa is rust/green/gold paisley design. Tufted ottoman is a grayed down teal.
If I do the open leg chairs they are gold rust stripe. I have a brown and white cowhide that could be thrown in but it's not large enough (only 5X7) for an area rug. I do like pattern on pattern and color!
