Grass/Liriope Help

I am not very knowledgeable about ornamental grasses so I tried to
educate myself but I didn't find what I was looking for so here I am. I
have a bed in the front of my house that has some grass and what I am
pretty sure is liriope. The bed faces east, so morning sun and evening
shade, is bordered by the house which is brick and the concrete
sidewalk. There is white rock in it but not sure it's around the
grass/liriope. I haven't moved the grass for fear of something jumping
out at me, lol. I don't know what type of grass it is and I have
included a picture here. It's probably not very helpful in identifying
it but it's all I have. I think the grass has choked out the liriope
which is in the very corner of the area. If it is liriope, it didn't
bloom this year which saddens me because I think liriope is simple yet
so pretty with the contrasting deep green foliage to the blue/purple
flowers. I want to transplant the grass and have another area where I
am going to build a bed that I can put it but I don't want it to be
invasive and take over everything I decide to put there later on. As
for the other, hopefully liriope, I'd like to keep some in the bed but
need to figure out how to get it thriving again. Right now it's just
surviving, poor thing. I know it's too hot to transplant right now, but
just trying to get my ducks in a row for when it starts cooling down.

It does look like liriope. You probably can dig it and divide it and put it someplace else and it will be fine. It is hard to kill liriope. As for why it didn't bloom, well, who knows? We had so much strange weather, including too much heat in winter, that it is hard to guess.

Thanks Dawn. I figured it was but really didn't understand why it didn't bloom. I was looking forward to the blooms. As for the other grass, I just don't know what it is. Only thing I do know is that maybe I can use it in some corners around my house so I don't have to weed eat as much. Anything to make it easier right?!

I have that. It is very hard to kill, but I've been slowly but surely digging and transplanting. Sadly, it is spreading and taking over flowerbeds! I try to do that type of moving in spring, but as hardy as it is...with watering, you should be able to do whatever you want. Mine are just NOW blooming.

Melissa, That is true, because you know that any bare soil will attract weeds, so better to have lawn or ground cover to eliminate the bare soil. It amazes me how quickly Mother Nature steps in to fill in any bare ground that we happen to have.

Mary, Wow, it seems late. Oh well, better to have blooms late than never. We lost our liriope in the summer of 2011 (no surprise, there), and I didn't bother replanting any. I get so tired of fighting the deer and the weather to maintain any sort of landscape at all. Nowadays, anything that matters to me grows in the fenced-in garden, and the yard is just a yard with trees, shrubs and vines that will tolerate being browsed by deer and being assaulted by drought. The pretty stuff goes into the garden's borders where it will get rain for much of, though not necessarily all of, the summer.
