But deciding to grow them next year is pending on your reviews.

I also am saving seeds from Stupice and Brandywine Sudduth Strain. .

Some Observations:

JF and PR were extremely seedy. I don't remember seeing anything like that.

I can sure share some seeds , if interested.

Coeur de Boeuf, on the other hand , had very few seeds. It was tasty and meaty. That should make some good sauce or even nice slice on the burger. I will grow that one for sure.

Delicious is almost unaminously a spitter...

I grew Paul Robeson last season and we were not fans. It's extremely seedy, as described, and very soft when ripe, rendering it much too juicy for our tastes. We concluded with this variety that we're just not huge fans of darker tomatoes in general, though I am growing Pink Berkeley Tie Dye this year (because I have seeds and it's one of the most gorgeous tomatoes ever) and we love it. Perhaps darks need a hotter, drier season to be at peak flavor..? I've grown 4 or 5 varieties of dark (or "black") tomatoes over the past 4 seasons and none of them have blown me away, personally, but the past 4 seasons were also cooler and wetter than this one..

nbm might be correct about darks needing hot weather to color up...but I am not sure. My Cherokee Purple's are awesome...but my Black from Tula's are very marginal. Cool weather areas (like where sey lives) have their special "needs"...as does everybody's weather. Trial and error....

Agree with ncrealestate - Delicious is a spitter for the most part. It's only real claim to fame is its old record for size.

Paul is ok but low production for me and far from the best of the blacks.

Never cared for June's quality - grainy and bland but it is very prolific.

Coeur is the best of the 4 by far. Excellent flavor and production.

I have similar thinking : Delicious had a very thin skin and thin wall.

Yeah PR was too seedy and too watery.

JF was filled with seeds and not a great taste. I bought this ESTERINA , golden yellow tomatoes , previous week. Oh, my !! what a great tasting sweet cherry tomato. But I found out that it is a hybrid. So gotta get F1 seeds. But I will also try F2 seeds that I have saved.

As I have mentioned in my previous post Coeur de Boeuf (French ox heart) is now in my MUST-GROW list.I might also give Delicious a try.

I will just keep the seeds for the other ones in my seeds collection and I can share if some one is interested.

I also bough a Brandywine Sudduth Strain from the farmers market, in order to save seeds from.

I just sliced it and tasted : Man o man ! Whata great tasting tomato. I have read rave reviews in Hudson's thread . Now I know they are truve when it come to taste, texture and color.

I paid $3.50 for a 10 oz tomato. The seeds pays off for the price alone. And I get the tomato to enjoy.

The seeds are fermenting.

I have also read a lot of good reviews on the Cowlick's strain. I should look into growing that one too. Is that also pink w/ PL ? And how does the DTMs compare ?

I grew Brandy Boy (hybrid) last year. The taste was very good but not as productive in my garden. Next year I will try it again.

I'm growing the Italian Oxhearts - Cuor di Bue, they are pretty robust and decent production so far. Had a couple of monster tomatoes easily over a pound. For a first time grower with minimal soil preparation, its pretty good results. And fruit set was 'mid-early' a week or so before the San Marzano.

Flavor wise, it was just OK really. Maybe a victim of high expectations? Everyone keeps saying that home grown tomatoes taste much better than store bought. The ones I have eaten so far taste good, just nothing exceptional.

UPDATE

I tried to save seeds from Coeur de Boeuf that I bought last week, but I did not get any seeds after fermentation. Today I will go back to get another one from farmers market to save seeds from. Have already saved seeds from the other varieties.

Yesterday went back to the Farmers Market and got what I wanted :

==Coeur de Boeuf : The ones that I got had enough seeds.

== Golden Jubilee : Yes, I like orange color and GJ is it. It also tastes very very good, what I call an old fashion tomato taste with well balance sweetness and acidity. Also it is meaty with just right amount of juice. So it is good both for slicing and sauce making.

Now the seeds are fermenting.

That is it !! No more new varieties . I have to issue a restraining order on myself. hehe

Sey, you've gotta grow Orange Strawberry. It is an oxheart of medium size and medium to good production. It is the best tasting orange tomato I have ever grown. Sweet, rich, complex almost no seeds. I think it is better than Kellogs Breakfast and Persimmon. Well worth it. I get my seeds from TomatoFest.com

Sey, I am growing 6 or 7 plants of Cour Di Bue Albenga from uprising seeds. I live in Sammamish. I'd be happy to give you some once they start ripening up more.

As far as my brandywines...I have had mixed results. Last year my Cowlick's (2 plants) were delicious and productive. This year it was a diseased mess...no bueno. My Sudduth's this year was very tasty...and just so-so on production. This is why I always say "two strikes and you are out". One year is not a fair chance. Three strikes....hey it's not baseball!
