Just happy to have them. Very easy. Although they are only coming into bloom, now. One generous woman sent me seed of the rarer, white flowered form. Really only charged me for the shipping. I didn't plant the normal colored, this summer, because I know I probably would not get white blooming ones, next year, if cross pollination happened. I would get occasional white-flowered plants, as time passes. But, for sure, even the pods of the normal colored one are as nice, and as colorful as the flowers. The Sun will shine through them. Mine are mixed with Scarlet Runner Bean, 3 colors of Morning Glory, red-flowered Cypress Vine and Moonflower, in a row of plastic window boxes, at the base of the lattice fence, on one side of the pool deck. They all mix in a competing mess. No sheets of bloom, as they only get half a day of Sun, but interesting.

How beautiful, bogturtle! Mine have also now just started coming into bloom. The seeds took a long time to germinate, and then the seedlings grew very slowly even into mid-July. But in the last few weeks they're have really taken off.

It's interesting how some plants have a more steady and uniform growth while others are s-l-o-w-l-y coming along but (without you knowing about it) are just chomping at the bit to get going once the right conditions arrive.

So you have the white Hyacinth Bean (with fragrant flowers?) radiant with the sunlight behind them, mixed in with all your other flowering vines. Must be gorgeous. Might you send a photo our way?

Is it best to snip the growing vertical stems to get the plant to grow out laterally? It seems that every year I have to learn this all over again. I did it last year with Morning Glory and Cardinal Climber, but with the thicker and more stout stems of Hyacinth Bean it seems more damaging to the plant and I'm not convinced it really will help lateral stems to form. I don't want to hurt the poor stems growing upward so vigorously! Yet I'm sure if I don't I'll get very little on the lower levels of the trellis. Here are two of the three stems climbing up the trellis, getting close to the top. Advice would be appreciated.

I have to plant Ipomea 'Heavenly Blue' each year. It never forms seed for me. But it is one I am determined to grow, every Summer. Easily available, on the market. Would like to try the unbelievable Japanese ones.
