just to add some extra info in - it was a container rose, not a bare root or own root.

it is a Jadis/Fragrant Memory.

its in a spot where it gets 6 1/2 - 7 hours of sunlight.

i didn't add any chemical fertilizers

the first two buds that opened were oddly shaped and almost literally burst, those two flowers lasted less than 24hrs before all petals falling, they were also a completely different colour than the rose shown in pic

Another add in here, I believe the soil is very sandy where it's planted.

If it is newly planted in the ground in sandy soil, it may help to water 2 gallons daily for a week or two then every other day to help it get over transplant shock. The roots are not established yet. Good luck, I bet it will recover.

Even container roses are best planted in spring. Your new rose is suffering from transplant shock. It may lose a few leaves and even stop setting new buds. When temperatures moderate it should recover.

A couple inches of mulch to keep the roots cool will help.

Oh! and do NOT feed it until it has settled in and is putting out new leaves.

i planted it about 2 1/2 weeks ago, as the ladies at the garden centre said it would be fine to plant in July (I'm in Ontario, Canada, zone 5b) - I was initially there just to pick up a few more annuals as some of mine had past their prime, and I never need much encouraging to buy a rose lol.

I have mulched around it, but I will keep up with watering and hope for the best!

Once it gets settled in (usually about 4 to 6 wks) it should be fine. Once winter starts, you may want to winter protect it since it didn't have a full summer to establish it's root system.
