Certainly a good cutting! A nice balance of white and green so it shouldn't be too hard for you to keep its variegation. The whiter parts will brown out more easily than the plain green form in less than good conditions but under normal care not too badly. Once it is rooted and growing I think you will enjoy this. Certainly on my top five favorite houseplants!

Hi Tasha, thanks for the update pics. The plumbea Nigra definitely has spider mites, all alocasias are a magnet for them and I recognize the look of the leaf of yours. Look on the bottom of the leaf for tiny webs and little red dots.

I take the plant in the yard and hose it down with a fine spray, otherwise you might wash that leaf and petiole with a sponge or whatever. Then spray with an insecticide if you have it. Look for the same thing on your other alocasias. I've never had them on plumbea but other types get them once in awhile here.

The variegated alocasia has declined a lot, it's a pickier grower than the others, the variegation not being able to make food makes it a weaker plant. It's obviously way overpotted now, if the roots have died back you might pot it down to a pot that fits the roots. The potting mix looks very dry, try keeping it on the moist side and see if it responds to that.

I found out that the name Portodora isn't correct, I saw a post from Lariann Garner, the original hybridizer, that it's actually Portora but the nursery trade spread the wrong name around. It's a portei X odora hybrid.

Hi Tasha, the variegated Monstera looks great, I've got one too and I really think it's a very nice type of variegation. The browning is really annoying though, mine does the same, the white parts seem very susceptible to it.

Your cutting looks healthy and should do fine. I have taken cuttings like this, of the growing tip of the plant before, and they've always done well. Monsteras seem quite easy to propagate, as I've recently learned (quite new to this!). You can also get new plants from sections of the main stem - they will grow new shoots from the nodes they have at each point where a petiole joins the main stem.
