deck material

Can you please tell me what the deck material is? Is the decking laid right on top of leveled dirt? It's beautifully done, thank you for sharing!

Thanks for your comment. It is Tigerwood hardwood. No it is not on soil, it is framed on PT wood.

    Jean Stover,

PT stands for pressure treated wood. In the west coast, it's usually Pressure Treated Doug Fir, in the east coat it's usually pine. Pressure treated means the wood has been chemically treated to resist mold, termites, and is suitable for direct ground contract. Most deck framing is made from this material.

Regular planks of decking are almost never ok to be laid down directly to concrete. Exotic hardwoods like Tigerwood, Ipe, Cumaru need at 18" of open air flow. Having said this, there are deck tiles made from the same wood that are made specifically for direct installation over concrete.

Beautiful design and execution in creating an uncontrived area. Did you also use Tiger Wood in constructing the retaining walls? If so are they used to clad PT timbers? Thank you for your time. I wish you were located on the East Coast !

Yes, retaining walls are PT framed.
