Two daughters are home for the weekend, so no sewing. But this week, I made up two sets of placemats and I have more fabric for more next week. These will go to my DH's Save the Children bazaar, along with any quilts that are ready.

and yes, very hot here as well. Unusual weather!

The temps here in central FL have actually been a bit milder this week - upper 80s instead of upper 90s! We finally had a long, hard rain last night. It's been pretty dry.

I am planning to load a quilt on the frame tomorrow! Sunday is busy; I'm playing in a handbell quartet for three church services then have a clarinet choir rehearsal in the evening.

Next weekend we are going to DC to celebrate birthdays with my sister!

Not much here this weekend. I am making another trip to my mom's on Saturday, so Sunday will be spent catching up.

Hoping to work on a quilt top that I'm just over half finished with. I'm making it for a friend who is going through treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Hope to finish quilting and binding the Olaf quilt, then get a pillowcase made to go with it. That'll be one Christmas present done and off my mind!

Hoping to get the last border on the Frozen quilt this week-end.

Last night I finished the baby quilt for the girl that cuts my hair - just need to get it washed. Probably no quilting for me this weekend. There is a big 3-day music festival here that starts tonight, so DH plans to spend most of the weekend there with me in tow! We always enjoy it - and all of the music is free - over 70 bands over the 3 days! I just hope the weather holds.

I've got Saturday chores and a big batch of fettuccine Alfredo to make for a dear friend who was recently diagnosed with ALS, she needs to gain a few pounds and loves Alfredo; hope to help her along. Sunday I'll deliver the Alfredo and she is giving me her treadmill for my use...it's so sad...I can't stop thinking about her future, she lives alone, no children, small family, it's really just her friends she'll have to support her. She is physically ok now, but the future is grim. I'd love to get some sewing in to take my mind away...if I steal a moment I hope to make the the August lotto block Sunday...Love those batiks with the black!

For those of us stuck in this heat wave...stay cool!

Valarie, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend! We have a friend who's been suffering with MSA for several years now. It's a disease very similar to ALS. He had what seemed like rapid progression for a couple of years and now is in a nursing home.

Went to Joann's and got some fabric for toss pillows to go on the couch. I just finished making slipcovers out of indigo wash denim, turned out a lot better than I thought it would since I don't do that kind of sewing. Anyway, with all the solid blue I thought I needed some accent pillows to dress it up. I already made a sham for a standard size bed pillow using denim I still have left from the slipcovers and some blue pillow ticking. (I keep standard size bed pillows on the couch all the time for snoozing.) But I want to make another one for the other side and I ran out of ticking and that's what I bought today. Plus 2 16-inch square pillow forms for the cool fabric I found that looks like those western blankets, has a lot of the indigo color but also some other colors like dark red and black, etc.

I'm working on my Antique Star quilt and trying to finish up a child's quilt that I pieced in Hawaii last winter. It will go to our first great-grandchild, a little boy. I had a heck of a time trying to find border fabric. I have purchased three pieces to use, and finally settled on the third one, a multi-colored polka dot, with an aqua inner border. The backing will be teal Minky. It won't be my favorite quilt, but I think it will be appreciated anyway. The main part was made completely from scraps from earlier quilts.

Val, I am so sorry for your friend. Such a difficult disease to cope with. A friend of ours with ALS passed this year after a long battle.

I got a quilt in the frame today. The first one using the Red Snappers, and it went in so easy! Didn't get to do any quilting, a thunderstorm came up and the lights started blinking. Not gonna take a chance with the mid-arm, so started working on the tee shirts for the next quilt. She sent 50 (they are kids, so they are small) but the sweat shirts won't be used, and some are duplicates, so only one of them. Hopefully tomorrow I can quilt some.

That's a cool looking quilt. But I'm wondering about your long-arm setup, from the photo that looks like a regular domestic sewing machine, surely it isn't??

Rita, it's a 9" Juki. Bigger than my regular machines, but not quite a mid arm. I can quilt a king size with it but it takes perseverance to do it. LOL

This is a group quilt that will go to an active-duty military guy who is the nephew of a member of the group. One lady created the design, several pieced the star blocks, and my part was piecing and quilting (usually one person pieces and another quilts, but if I do both it saves postage to send it to another person). It will then be sent to the aunt and she will bind and label it, and give it to the recipient.
