Pups, Yay!!

Since others have very kindly shared their pup pics, and this is my first "Sansing" year, I thought I'd share my first ones. Don't know if the ID is correct, I'm using the names given by the sellers...

Gold Hahnii sold to me as a "Gold Star"

My first Whitney - from enterotoxigenic... 2 pups!

Sold to me as Superba Robusta...

Eve - 2 pups... Yay!

Black Gold Superba - has about 5 pups...

Sold to me as a Blue Star, looks to me like a Starlite or Silver Marginated.

One of my favorites: Gold Flame - has another pup on the other side...

Way to go. Next year you may be giving away some plants.

I hope to do so Stush, that is, if they survive Winter... I take my Jade collection to my classroom every year, and they stay there till early Spring, but now with over 30 Sans to add, there's no room left in my classroom. I'll have to try and keep them warm at home!

It's so much fun to see new growth! Do your students pay attention to your plants? What a great way to get kids interested and knowledgable about plant growth and care. Your pups are cute!

Thanks Royals...! Yes my students do get involved; one of the jobs on our "Job Chart" includes plant watering, and we always have something growing at our science center... Children really get into watching things grow, especially when you use clear containers so they can watch the root system develop...

Reminds me of when I worked. My office would be full of plants. I even added 10 more fluorescent light fixtures all along the walls for my plants. Employees used to say, 'Welcome to the Jungle'.

    Stush, question;

I keep my house pretty cold in Winter... What's the lowest temp my Sans will tolerate? I don't want to lose any...

thanks for your Sans wisdom, haha!

Mary, All my tall trifasciata goes in my basement. Kept about 60 degrees. All my t. hahnii goes in my upstairs used 55 gal. fish tank. Kept dry and at about 75 to 80 degrees. So it depends which sans you got. Most can take 50's but kept dry and still needs some bright light. They will naturally go dormant and rest giving you great fast growth come warmer wetter weather come late spring.

    Thanks so much Stush!

I guess I can take my 7 Hahniis to my classroom along with my Jades, and leave all the rest of my Sans at home, and try to maintain the temp at 65... So 65 would be ok?

Mary, As far as I know (which is limited) Jades can take freezing temps. I got a old Jade plant that was my wife's grandmother in a house that was empty for years and unheated in zone 6. The plant was in the basement window and was just a stump 4 inches. Brought it home and it sprouted and grew to being 3 feet tall. It fell over and died after our cat was using it as a scratching post. By the time we knew it, too late. Couldn't even save any starters. I didn't know much at the time about jades. Remember 'wet and cold means death' 'Cold and dry seems to be ok'. Hope it helps some.

    Wow! Thanks Stush!

I've been carrying over 30 Jades to my classroom every year, hahaha! Maybe this Fall I will only take a few, (my rarest ones) for the children to observe, and to decorate my classroom and the teachers lounge. I'll keep the rest at home and see how they survive...

    Have a great day!

    Mary
