Keep them - don't give up built in storage and display. Paint them glossy warm off-white and put your accent color (green?) as a muted tone on the inside back of the cabinets. ORB paint out / Change out your hardware and paint out the brass around the fireplace with high heat black paint.

If you decide to modify anything, ask a finish carpenter to pull the face trim with the arches and cut it square before replacing. That will align with the squares on the doors and trim below and take out the slight country aspect.

White! or espresso, annie sloan paint is fantastic, you dont have to sand! a little pricey but SO worth it. super easy to use. just read about it! then, take apart your fireplace insert and spray the gold with a brushed nickel or rubbed bronze finish.
