They seem a little high to me but I am NOT a design expert.

Also, if you use damage free hanging strips, you can avoid holes in your wall.

I've heard designers say not to hang pics on the staircase because you're just walking past the and never look at them. But I do it anyway! I admire how neatly you've pre-arranged your pics. I think they'll look good where you have them now. Can't wait to see them.

I would move the two in the top row a little to the left .....to me, they feel crowded up there. Or move everything down a touch. I love photos on staircase, as long as they aren't too cluttered looking. I think your plan will look great!

Actually, the shadow of the railing is just about where the middle of your grouping should land. If you use painter's tape and tape the top of line of that shadow on the wall, you can use it to realign your grouping. When you adjust your templates, the tape placed on the top of the shadow should run from the upper left corner of the template at the top of the stairs through the diagonal corner to corner of the middle one in the trio grouping, right to the lower right hand corner of the lowest one. Be sure to leave a hand's width between the pieces next to and over each other. If they have matching frames, you may be able to do one frame's width, but depends on how substantial the frames are. See if that doesn't feel better, and put a dimmer on the light that is casting such a harsh shadow. Add better lighting upstairs and change the cans over the stairwell to adjustable wall-washer cans to shine on the stairwell walls. I think that will do it!

I like how you've arranged them, but I do think they are a bit high. It's okay if they are somewhat hidden by the bannister as that encourages people to approach the art/photos, and the bannister acts as an anchor to the grouping. So ... I'd lower by just 3 or 4 inches or, alternatively, leave another inch or so between the frames.

Will look great no matter what you choose to do.

I agree with Decoenthusiaste, that the gallery should follow the line of the stair railing. I'd align them so that the center of each picture is about 58" from the stair it's above. If you have two pictures, one above the other, then the middle of the two-picture arrangement should be at 58". And obviously the picture that's in the middle of the entire arrangement should be more or less in the middle of stairwell.

That's pretty good, and except for the picture on the right, the arrangement as a whole does follow the line of the railing. I might lower that last picture just a tad, but otherwise, I think it's fine.
