Mixing metals?

Hubby and I closed on the cabin yesterday at 11am! It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride and I want to thank everyone here for great advice and input.

We met with the builder at 3pm and started putting together our priority list of updates. To my shock, DH was adding to the list and coming up with ideas on things I would have thought he would balk at.

On a side note, we stayed at a cute little inn the night before and part of this may be due to the fact that he really liked the decor at this place. Cabin but modern.

He fell in love with the ORB fixtures in the bathroom and kitchenette. I, of course, already had it in my head I want to do black everywhere. Would it look odd to do some of both? Like ORB faucet but black hardware on the cabinets? I was planning on changing ceiling fans to something with black, but DH really likes door hardware that he found in a finish called Venetian bronze.

I think you can mix metals if you find a rhyme or reason for what goes where. I have a black iron light fixture in my kitchen -- the ceiling an in the adjoining FR is bronze. The hardware on my cherry island and breakfast room hutch are black -- the hardware on my white and blue cabinets are pewter. The main/cleanup faucet and pot filler are against white and are chrome. The prep sink on the islad has a black counter and stands in front of the stainless fridge -- I went with brushed nickel so it is a softer look there. With three cabinet finieshes, I wasn't going for a matchy look, but there is a clear pattern to what goes where.

Sure! In my kitchen I have sort of coppery cabinet hardware, ORB faucets, ORB door hardware, and the light fixtures are black/copper. My kitchen table also has a black metal base. I think it's pretty easy to mix ORB with black finishes.

Thanks so much! I ended up finding pics of the inn where we stayed and upon closer inspection realize faucets were ORB, knobs were black and the door hinges were brass! Like you said if the mix makes sense it works. Obviously I didn't notice at the inn and that is the kind of thing that usually jumps out at me.

Congratulations on the purchase of your new home. I think it's fine to mix metals, especially orb and black.

I love orb and black together :) DH has orb fixtures on black tile in his shower. There is black hardware on the cabinets with orb faucet. It's a (Texas) rustic elegant look.
